WWF nature mission «Moorland conservation Breitfeld», 19 September 2026, 9015 St. Gallen
Breitfeld is one of Switzerland's most important amphibians spawning grounds. This nature conservation project helps to preserve this wetland, which is home to numerous animal and plant species, for the long term. Over the past 100 years, the loss of spawning ground has led to around 70% of native amphibian species now being listed as endangered.
This makes it all the more important to protect and maintain existing breeding grounds.
The Breitfeld wetland provides important refuges for many animal and plant species in an intensively used landscape.
Regular maintenance is necessary to ensure that the biotope can continue to fulfill its ecological function.
We clean the ponds, rake hay, and protect the biotope from reforestation.
Date: Saturday, 19 September 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; meeting point: Breitfeld car park (Hafnersberg); meals included. More details about equipment to bring and registration deadline can be found on the event page.

Braking of flax Val Müstair, 10 October 2026, 7536 Santa Maria Val Müstair
The breaking of the flax is both an old custom and an autumn festival, focusing on the communal processing of the flax harvest (linen) using traditional tools.
The dried flax stalks are ribbed, broken, and hackled until the flax fibers can be spun into yarn by the spinners.
At the Tessanda hand weaving mill, looms that are up to 100 years old clatter away, weaving unique linen fabrics just as they did in days gone by.
Demonstrations of various crafts, a market, and a small festival restaurant serving exquisite local specialties make the day an entertaining, sensory, and unforgettable experience.

«Foliage Train®», mid-October to mid-November, Locarno
The best way to experience the beautiful foliage of autumn is on the Centovalli Express.
The Centovallina - as the train is also known - runs between Locarno and Domodossala during the colorful season, past the most colorful forests and to the most charming places scattered throughout the valley.
Thanks to the Mediterranean climate in Ticino, the fall is particularly long and can be admired until mid-November.
Guests should stop off in between to discover the unique little villages with their typical stone buildings and dine in a grotto.
In view of the expected large crowds, seat reservations are absolutely essential.

Natural phenomenon larch forests, from mid-October 2025, Engadine
The shorter the days and lower the temperatures, the more colorful the forests become in autumn. A special highlight awaits us in the Engadine. There, the larches present themselves in a golden glowing autumn dress. The natural phenomenon reaches its greatest color intensity around mid-October. The larch is the only native conifer that loses its needles in autumn. Golden larch forests can be found everywhere in the Engadine. Forester Ralf Fluor tells us his favorite place: along the Albula Pass between Bergün and La Punt.
