This popular festival marks the return of spring on the first Sunday in May in numerous communities in the canton of Geneva. At the heart of the festivities is a children's parade. Wearing floral crowns, they sing and dance their way through the village. In the middle of the throng are the May King and Queen, who are carried along on a float, and the «Bête» (bogeyman) or «Feuillu» (broad-leafed tree), a figure made from branches and twigs. In some villages, the Feuillu is replaced by a tall pole bedecked with flowers and garlands, known as the May Tree. In Cartigny and Onex, local children clean the village fountains the day before the parade and decorate them with flowers. However, the conclusion by a pleasant snack is common everywhere.

Between the end of May and mid-June, hundreds of thousands of mountain daffodils bloom on the meadows and pastures in Seewis and Fanas in Prättigau. On an area of over 100 hectares, the fragrant white blossoms compete with the last patches of snow on the Schesaplana massif. A wonderful round tour awaits you with an appropriately signposted hiking route.

On a few fields in Grengiols, a species of wild tulip blooms that grows only here. Every year in the second half of May, countless locals, and guests from all over Switzerland come to Chalberweid to marvel at the wild tulips. At the same time as the tulips bloom, the «Grengiols Culture Days» are held, with brunch on May 19, musical entertainment and guided tours along the tulip ring.

Enjoy a trip aboard the Bernina Herb Express from Chur to Le Prese. In the RhB panoramic car, you'll get a close-up view of the UNESCO World Heritage landscape. A delicious lunch awaits you in Le Prese, along with a guided tour of the Raselli Erboristeria Biologica herb fields and production site. In the afternoon or the next day, you'll return to Chur on the Bernina Express. The Bernina Herb Express runs every second Friday of the month from June to August 2024 - and all at a fixed price.

For an entire month, 26 botanical gardens throughout Switzerland will host more than 80 events, excursions, and lectures on the topic of «Plants for our future - native garden and balcony plants». Native wild plants form the basis for the existence of our wildlife. Their use in gardens and on balconies can promote biodiversity. Native wild plants are also often better adapted to climate change than exotic plants.
