Bizarre orchids - simply amazing
Orchids are wonderful anyway. But there are three so bizarre that we would like to introduce them to you.
Monkey face or flying duck?
Quite unusual looks Dracula simia. Because it doesn't take much
imagination to recognize a monkey face in its flower.
It grows in Peru and Ecuador and is also called «monkey orchid».
Also special is the Caleana Major. This small orchid is native to
Australia. The continent is known for its eccentric fauna. But
this plant clearly shows that it also has a bizarre flora.
The Caleana Major is also called
«Flying Duck Orchid» because of the way its flower looks.
Oooh, naked men!
Last but not least, there's Orchis italica or naked man orchid.
It gets its common name from the lobed lip (labellum) of each
flower which mimics the general shape of a naked man.
