Father's Day became known worldwide through the USA
Sonora had originally proposed June 5 as the date because it was her father's birthday. But since the parish priest did not have enough time to coordinate with the surrounding parishes and to prepare everything, the devotion was postponed to the third Sunday in June.
And in 1972, Father's Day was declared a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon made it official. Since then, it has spread throughout much of the world.
